Raffaele Bugiardini is full professor of clinical cardiology at the University of Bologna. He is also Principal Investigator of the International Survey of Acute Coronary Syndromes in Transitional Countries (ISACS-TC). Dr. Raffaele Bugiardini's research is mainly focused on women and heart disease, risk stratification, non-obstructive coronary artery disease, coronary spasm, coronary microcirculation and coronary plaque vulnerability. Dr. Raffaele Bugiardini is author of over 160 scientific publications, and numerous book chapters. His research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of the American Medical Association, the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Circulation, and the European Heart Journal. Currently, he is Principal Investigator of the International Survey of Acute Coronary Syndromes in Transitional Countries (ISACS-TC, http://isacs-ct.cineca.org/) initiative, which is designed to track outcomes of patients presenting with acute coronary syndromes in Eastern Europe Countries and Western Balkans area in order to bring further knowledge in the field of clinical outcomes.
Dr. Raffaele Bugiardini has delivered many named international lectures as a Faculty speaker. He is a fellow of many professional organizations, including the American College of Cardiology (ACC), the American Heart Association (AHA), the Italian Society of Cardiology (SIC) and the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). He served on the Board of the ESC, is a past-chair of the Working Group on Coronary Pathophysiology and Microcirculation of the ESC, and a past-chair of the Congress of the Italian Society of Cardiology. Currently he is a Task Force Member and Reviewer of the ESC Practice Guidelines and nucleus member of the Working Group on Coronary Pathophysiology and Microcirculation of the ESC. Dr. Raffaele Bugiardini received his medical degree from the University of Bologna, School of Medicine. He postgraduates in Internal Medicine and Clinical Cardiology from the University of Bologna, School of Medicine. The early part of his career was spent at the University of Bologna as Research Fellow of the Italian National Research Council. Dr. Raffaele Bugiardini has served as Research Fellow, at the Cardiovascular Unit, Royal Postgraduate School, Hammersmith Hospital, London. He has served as Head of the Coronary Research Group of the Coronary Care Unit of the Department of Medicine at the University of Bologna.
