Academic and professional achievement-major experience

Professor Zhilin Miao is currently a Professor and Chief Physician in the Department of Cardiovascular medicine at people’s hospital of Liaoning Province, China. He gained his PhD degree in cardiovascular medicine from China Medical University in China. He worked as a attending physician and vice director physician at the General Hospital of Shenyang Military Region for 15 years (from 1989 to 2004) and as a Chief Physician at people’s hospital of Liaoning Province, China for 8 years (from 2004 to now). He has completed more than 6000 cases of interventional heart operation including percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), permanent cardiac pacemaker implantation, etc. He also worked as a visiting scholar at the center of adult diseases, Osaka, Japan for one year supported by Sasagawa medical foundation in 1996-1997.

Research interests

Professor Miao’s research interests mainly include prevention and treatment of coronary artery restenosis after PCI by methods of gene transduction or active targeting drug system. He has found that the proliferation of cultured SHR VSMC could be significantly suppressed by the transfer of human recombinant calponin and calponin transfer with infiltrator intramural catheter can inhibit the proliferation of intima in vivo. In addition, he has been studying the methods of improving the treatment effect of atherosclerosis and to verify the feasibility of establish a new pattern of active targeting therapy of atherosclerosis that taking the specific component of the atherosclerotic plaque as targets by new mechanisms (the two studies above was supported by natural science foundation of Liaoning province). He has published over 30 refereed journal papers in medical journals. He serves as an editorial board member in four medical journals.
